BUT SO WHAT IF I SIMPLY SHOOT?
Thursday, December 23, 2004
In my 3 years of doing Science Education, this is the single, most worthy quote to commit to memory. It should be the yardstick for those who profess to be educators to measure themselves when it comes to developing young minds. Broken ninto 4-line stanzas for poetic effect:
In teaching for thinking...
We are not only interested
At how many answers students know
But also in how to behave
When they do not know
Intelligent behaviour is performed
In response to questions and problems
The answers to which
Are not immediately known
We are interested
In how students produce knowledge
Rather than how
They merely reproduce knowledge
The critical attribute
Of intelligent human beings
Is not only having information
But knowing how to act on it
