BUT SO WHAT IF I SIMPLY SHOOT?

Saturday, July 31, 2004

A note was stuck on my car’s windscreen today. Folded in half, “SURPRISE!!” on the front. Inside, it reads: Hi Joshua Hooi Chee Shig!!!! I’m your secret admirer!! :) Take care. Have a good week. Go save lives!! :)”

Who can that be? I wonder. Someone I know? Someone I don’t know? Let’s see what I might have here...

Observation 1:
The note was written in English. She must be English-speaking. Should be able to communicate well with me. That’s a good start.

Observation 2:
The note was planted on my battered car somewhere between 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., at the SK car park. She must be someone who had class in one of the SKs, or near the SK area, in between 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. It was planted when the sun was scorching. In such a relentless weather, people normally would not spend another extra minute out in the open, especially in car parks. Proves how much her adoration is for me!

Observation 3:
The note was written on a page that was torn off a diary dated 29th December 2004. What a sacrifice she made by tearing off an unused page from her diary! Why a page from December? Why a page from the future? Perhaps she is a modern person. Trendy. My type!

Observation 4:
The page was from a Prudential diary. She must be a prudent person. Organized too, for she uses a diary! Better and better...

Observation 5:
She addresses me by my full name, but she mis-spelt my Chinese name. She must’ve taken the time to look it up somewhere, because no one calls me by my Chinese name. She can’t be someone I’ve known for a long time, because I’d be so offended if my long time gal pal can’t spell my name correctly! She must be someone new in the sphere of my existence. Probably someone new enough to still think that I’m perfect :) Perfect... keep it that way...

Observation 6:
She says “I’m your secret admirer!!” Taken, accepted, and believed as true. No need for further investigation :) She leaves things to be discovered. Mysterious. I like.

Observation 7:
“Take care. Have a good week.” – She must be a caring person. She has enough intuition and sensitivity to know that I’ve been having a hard week. How did she know that? Wow...

Observation 8:
“Go save lives!!” – She can’t be from the lifeguard corps. Lifeguards don’t address each other like this. Saving lives is part of our lives. We don’t need to remind ourselves about it. She might be:

a) Someone who has read the feature article about me and my exploits in lifesaving in the papers. A well-read and knowledgeable person, who keeps up with things and issues happening around the world. Hard to narrow down here. It can be anyone from Kedah, Perlis, Penang, or Perak who reads the Star.

b) A Christian girl, who shares a passion for evangelism. Maybe that’s what she meant by “go save lives”. She can possibly be from the CF. And she ended the note without a “God bless” or “praying for you” kind of stuff. Not too holy-moley. Sounds good!

So based on the 8 observations, the person who planted the note there is an English-speaking USM student, who doesn’t mind breaking a sweat under the hot sun for me, someone who is modern, trendy, prudent, organized, a new gal in town, mysterious, caring, intuitive, sensitive, well-read, knowledgeable, shares the same faith and passion, but yet not too holy-moley, and she admires me! I bet she has long hair too, flawless complexion, and stands at 5’ 5”.

WOW! SOMEBODY PERFECT LIKES ME!!

Yeah, I’ll keep telling myself that. Hah.

Hey, maybe it’s Andrea?? On a foreign student exchange program? Hmmmm...
